Capital One Case Competition Project
The Capital One case competition was an initiative that aimed to challenge participants to develop innovative ways to promote environmental awareness and combat climate change using one of Capital One's existing products.
I created a product called Capital One Shopping Green, which is a redesign of the original Capital One Shopping app. The new app incorporates sustainable metrics that customers care about, allowing them to sort for eco-friendly products when shopping quickly. Customers are more likely to purchase sustainable goods when incentivized, so I included increased rewards for green products compared to alternative products. As a result, thee redesign increases the purchase of sustainable goods while increasing Capital One's revenue.
According to the resources I researched, customer awareness of climate change is increasing, and a significant percentage of consumers want companies to create awareness of social issues, including climate change. 65% of consumers are willing to pay for more eco-friendly products. Additionally, products that make environmental efforts have seen higher average cumulative growth over the past five years than those that don't. However, while other online marketplaces encourage customers to buy eco-friendly products, big retail players are still not equipped. Therefore, I saw an opportunity for Capital One to leverage finance to act at the climate mitigation and commerce crossroads.
To illustrate my ideas, I used Figma to create a low-fidelity prototype of the new app design. Then, I conducted user testing and made revisions based on feedback, ultimately leading to a high-fidelity prototype that meets the needs of both consumers and the company.
